Experiment with the "Strata Stencil" animation technique. This is made of 270 frames, hand-drawn on note cards, that were selectively cut out with an X-Acto knife to achieve the "portal" effect. Then, using a makeshift "clothesline" rig, each frame was hung up one after the other to let the real magic happen before the camera.
